After graduating from the Business Administration department of Boğaziçi University in 1986, he worked as a department manager at Anadolu Credit Cards Inc. which was a Pioneer of credit card business in Türkiye , and then served as trader/treasurer in the Treasury Departments of Standard Chartered Bank's Istanbul branch, Westdeutsche Landesbank's Istanbul and Moscow branches. Between 1998-2002, he worked as a treasury department manager at Egebank and just after the merger of six ceased banks acted as founding treasurer of "Birleşik Sümerbank" under SDIF (Savings Deposit Insurance Funda-TMSF). He managed and consulted first ever done deposit transfer auctions from ceased banks to operating banks and also asset management structures of non-performing loans under SDIF. Ağaoğlu provides since 2002 consultancy services on managing distressed assets and the risks of financial and commodity markets for various institutions and corporations. He served as the Director of Treasury of Socar Group Türkiye between 2015-2024 also since 2016 he is advising to Socar Capital, Azerbaijan about financial markets and risks. He is a managing Partner of ARAMS Ltd. - Asset Resolution and Management Services - since 2002. Active in media Ağaoğlu served between 2009-2013 as editor-in-chief of Fortune, between 2010-2013 as financial markets commentator of CBNC-e and between 2014-2018 of BloombergHT. He is daily columnist in Vatan, Milliyet and Ekonomi newspapers since 2004 and he is lecturer in Kültür University and offering courses on financial markets. Ağaoğlu is married and a father of one daughter.
